Help us spread awareness, not invasives! Come join us at this free drop-in event hosted by YISC and the Youth of Today Society to play YISC’s newly released invasive species video game: Plant Native!
Explore Yukon’s wilderness, avoid dangerous invasive species, plant native flowers, and race your friends to the finish line!
“Plant Native!” is a short 2D pixel platformer video game that will be published by YISC on the www.yukoninvasives.com website on February 26th, 2024, to kick off Invasive Species Awareness Week, organized by the Invasive Species Centre.
The game, made for all ages and perfect for youth, aims to spread awareness about the invasive species problem in the Yukon, while simultaneously fostering a sense of wonder for Yukon’s unique landscape and its various native plants, emphasizing the value of protecting them from the threat of invasive species.
The premise of the game assumes the player as a secret agent tasked with replanting native plants around Yukon, all while overcoming obstacles, namely, invasive species. While crossing each level, players can find and read hidden fun facts about invasive species, and collect information cards on various native species.
Players will face a surmountable challenge within the game whilst also learning about native species and why we would want to protect them from invasive plants.
